Equipment Rules

  • Release Method: Thumb draw only.
  • Bow: Traditional bare bow—no arrow shelf, no sight, no stabilizer.
  • Arrows: Any shaft and fletching material permitted. No broadheads.

General Regulations

  • Bounce-Outs: Do not count as hits. No retries.
  • Line Cuts: Standard line-cutter scoring applies.
  • Safety: For any stance, always nock with the arrow pointed toward the target.

Competition Events & Disciplines

1. Short Distance (Beginners)

~10 Yards
  • Target & Format: 40-cm 5-ring target, ~10 yards, 3 arrows per end, 4 ends (12 arrows total).
  • Scoring: Yellow (2 pts), Red / Blue / Black (1 pt), White / Miss (0 pts).
  • Winner: Highest aggregate score wins. Tie-breaker ends if needed.

2. Multi-Stance (Advanced)

~10 Yards
  • Target & Format: 40-cm 5-ring target, ~10 yards, 3 arrows per end, 5 ends (15 arrows total).
  • Scoring: Yellow (2 pts), Red / Blue / Black (1 pt), White / Miss (0 pts).
End 1: Any standing position.
End 2 — Frontal Stance: Both feet parallel with toes pointing toward target.

End 4 — Kneeling Stance: At least one knee resting on the ground.

End 5: Any standing position.

3. Three Dot Target

~10 Yards
  • Target & Format: Three separate targets each featuring a 4”-diameter yellow dot, ~10 yards, 3 arrows per end, 4 ends.
  • Scoring: 1 point for each dot hit. (Multiple hits on the same dot during one end count as only 1 point). Maximum possible: 12 points.

4. Long Distance

50 Meters
  • Target & Format: Traditional Qing-style rectangular target (80” × 30”), 50 meters, 3 arrows per end, 3 ends (9 arrows total).
  • Scoring: Hit on target = 1 point, Miss = 0 points.

5. Speed Shooting

Timed
  • Format: Two 40-cm targets (Left and Right) at ~10 yards, 6 arrows per end, 2 ends.
  • Protocol: Alternating sequence: Left → Right → Left → Right → Left → Right.
  • Starting Position: All arrows must start stored in the quiver or belt (no arrows in hand before timer begins).
  • Scoring: Black ring and inside counts as a valid hit. Fastest time wins, with a 3-second time penalty added for every missed arrow.

6. Piercing Power

Penetration Depth
  • Target & Distance: Rinehart Rhino Block target core, ~3–5 yards, 1 arrow per end, 2 ends.
  • Divisions:
    • 40# limit division (weigh-in required at 8:30 am)
    • 60# limit division (weigh-in required at 8:30 am)
    • Unlimited division (no weigh-in required)
  • Measurement: Penetration depth is measured from target surface to shaft depth (including arrowhead). Greatest single-end depth wins. (Striking a previously struck hole records 0").

7. Team Ritual & Heckling Matches

Team Ritual Match

2 teams drawn at random. Qing-style 80” × 30” target at 50 meters, 2 arrows per end, 1 end. Scoring: Hit (1), Miss (0). The losing team drinks the traditional ritual beverage.

Team Heckling Match

Same teams and target at 50 meters. Good-natured heckling and distracting noise are permitted (no physical contact or personal insults). The losing team drinks the ritual beverage.
